Avid photographer who loved traveling ahd hiking.

Benno co-owned and ran the Guthe and Thorsch factory in Dresden, Germany. This was the Kamera-Werkstatten Guthe & Thorsch (Dresden Camera Works) also abbreviated as K.W. The company was established in 1919 by Paul Guthe and Benno Thorsch. Notable cameras produced included the 3x4 TLR Pilot Reflex (1931), which by 1935 evolved into the 6x6 120 film SLR Pilot 6 and the Pilot Super (1938). Benno immigrated to Detroit with his family in 1938 to avoid the approaching war. He sold the KW company in exchange for Charles A. Nobel's Detroit Photographic business.

Benno lived in a retirement home in Laguna Woods, California, reaching the age of 105 before passing away on Sept 2, 2003.
